Cuicocha is one of the most famous lakes in Ecuador! By private car we drive half an hour to the entrance of the Cotacachi-Cayapas reserve, where we start a 4 to 5 hour hike that runs between 3,100 and 3,500 meters above sea level. Along the way we enjoy the biodiversity and views of the picturesque Cuicocha Lake with its two islets and the mountain peaks of Cotacachi (4939 m), Imbabura (4630 m) and Cayambe (5790 m). The local guide explains the origin of the crater and tells us about the plants we find along the way. At the end of the tour we drive to the small town of Cotacachi, famous for its leather goods, where we have lunch and take some free time to get to know the town. In the afternoon we return to the hotel.
